Mega District

Happy New Years everyone!! Well, it's my fourth holiday here at the MTC, and I'm not sure it will be my last haha.

I know everyone is in anticipation to hear where I will be reassigned now that my time at the MTC is up. So I'll give you a little recap on the events of the pastweek, and do a little 'splainin about my current situation--

So... Monday rolled around and 50 more visas rolled in. Half of my district left for Mozambique that morning, and the other half all received their visas... oh, except me. So, now I really AM a solo sister!

Now my scheduled classes are over, I have no teachers or classroom, I am still companion-less, and every member of my district has left for the mission field. Hahaha, it's been an interesting week for sure! I just can't help but laugh at the situation, and the week just continued to prove more hysterical!

First, for those that are curious, about the whole reassigning thing. Right now, because of the steady inflow of visas, and their hopes that the issue will soon be resolved, they are placing Portuguese missionaries that have overstayed their scheduled time here into a "mega district."

We have a few chapels in the main building that we use as classrooms during the week, and there are a few teachers that wander in an out to help us. But we pretty much just have all day to study... its been really great, actually. I've learned A LOT the past couple of days. We have the opportunity to sign up with teachers and have one-on-one time, we can volunteer in the TRC and act as progressing investigators, and we have a million opportunities to practice teaching. As long as I keep my days scheduled well, they are incredibly productive. I can focus my days on all the things that I need to work on personally to become a more effective teacher.

They've been keeping missionaries in the megadistrict for 2 or 3 weeks and then if they still haven't received their visas, THEN they submit names for reassignment.

So there's your update.

Now on with the funny week. I know you're not supposed to write home about your injuries or illnesses, but this one was just to good not to!

I had just been abondoned by my district. It was my first meal alone, it was breakfast. I sought comfort in the only place I knew how--carbohydrates. As I reached for the sweet release, pain seared through my unexpecting fingers.

(Two hours later)

I walked into the urgent care clinic across the street from the MTC. As I signed in, the nurse took one look at the second degree burns across my fingers and exclaimed, "Oh no! How did you do that? A curling iron? Flat iron?"

"A bagel"

A bagel. I received some nice second degree burns from the melted cinnamon sugar on the outside of a bagel. I couldn't get a good head-on shot, but you can see was going on. A BAGEL.

I know... it looks good.

p.s. Note the presence of the BACON WATCH. Compliments of the fabulous Ali Goldsmith.

Life is good.

LOVE YOU LOTS!!!
